Even though the vocational training period has already officially begun and this year’s “Summer of Vocational Training” is over, the chances of starting an apprenticeship are still very good for young people! Entry into the current training year is also possible in October and November through a late placement. At the last count, some 180,000 apprenticeship positions were unfilled.
The federal employment agencies, Jobcenters, Chambers of Commerce and regional trades associations also support young people in entering vocational training at a later stage.
Dual vocational training offers young people a variety of interesting and challenging occupations and gives them the opportunity to actively shape their future. At the same time it is a central pillar of securing skilled labour. Germany is in urgent need of well trained and educated workers to actively meet the major challenges of the present day: climate change, digitalisation and demographic change.
Young people can find information and vocational training opportunities through the “Starthilfe für deine Zukunft” (Restart Your Future) information offer, the #AusbildungKlarmachen Germany-wide apprenticeship campaign, the “AzubiWelt” app of the BA, the apprenticeship search engine of the Chamber of Industry and Commerce and the “apprenticeship radar” of the Chambers of Skilled Crafts. Here, you can also find local support and advices services that facilitate and accompany your start.
Background to the Summer of Vocational Training 2023
The “Summer of Vocational Training” was firmly established as a brand for joint communication with the new declaration of the Alliance for Education and Further Training of 24th May 2023. In 2023, the partner organizations in the Alliance for Education and Further Training organised the “Summer of Vocational Training” to support young people on their path to vocational training for the third time. With a variety of campaigns and events at the federal, state and regional levels, they provide information about vocational training, bring companies and young people together, and jointly show that #START your vocational training is worthwhile. From May to September 2023, the focal points of “vocational orientation”, “excellence” and “diversity” offered young people, teachers and parents insights into the many facets of vocational education and training. In October and November, the focus is shifting to late placements.
