BundID: Access to digital services of the Federal Employment Agency via a central user account

Secure digital identification for the services of the  Federal Employment Agency and Family Benefits Offices

22 Jul 2024 | Press release no.33

From 22nd July 2024 onwards, citizens can make easy and secure use of the Federal Employment Agency’s digital services (eServices) with their BundID. This includes services provided by the Federal Employment Agency, the employment offices, the Jobcenters and the Family Benefits Offices.

Federal Minister of the Interior Nancy Faeser: “We want to make life easier and more digital for citizens. As a central user account, the BundID represents a big step forward, helping to end the use of paper documentation in many areas and omitting the need for several different registrations and applications. I am very pleased that the BundID can now also be used for the services of the Federal Employment Agency. It will make access to our digital services secure, quick and easy.”

Federal Minister of Labour and Social Affairs, Hubertus Heil: “The Federal Employment Agency has successfully established digital application processes for its services and is now expanding them. With the connection to the BundID, digital authentication with an electronic ID card is now both secure and straightforward. This is an important step towards a modern and citizen-friendly form of public administration.”

Chair of the Executive Board of the Federal Employment Agency, Andrea Nahles: “From now on, citizens can identify themselves at the Federal Employment Agency with their BundID and make use of our digital services on both a secure and straightforward basis. This is an important step towards supporting the digital transformation of public administration in Germany and further expanding the BundID as a central identification tool for all online applications.”

Applications can be submitted even more quickly and easily with the BundID. The BundID also allows for the automatic pre-filling of online applications with personal data, for example. This reduces the workload associated with filling out documents and saves time. It also prevents typing errors and allows applications to be processed more quickly.

The principle of “data economy” is also followed: citizens are responsible for acknowledging the transfer of their data and therefore retain full control. Further digital administrative services can also be used with the BundID account, data can be managed centrally, and the electronic mailbox can be used for the receipt of notices and supporting documents.

The Federal Ministry of the Interior and Community has been offering the BundID as a central user account for digital administrative services since 2019. This approach will continue developing further. More than 1200 online services and portals are now connected.
