Children’s allowance increases as of January

More money for families with low incomes

17 Dec 2021 | Press release no.45

Good news for families with low incomes: from 1 January 2022, the maximum amount for the children’s allowance will increase by four euros to 209 euros per child and month. Families who have already applied for or are already receiving children’s allowance do not have to take action on their own – the amount paid out will be adjusted automatically from January.

Children’s allowance is paid to parent couples and single parents by the family benefits office if they are entitled to children’s benefit for the respective child, if the child is under 25 years of age and unmarried, and if the child lives in the same household. The application for children’s allowance can be filled out directly online and the necessary supporting documents uploaded.

Good to know: the children’s allowance pilot can be used at www.kinderzuschlag.de to check in just a few steps whether an application for children’s allowance might be worthwhile. Here you will also find further information on the eligibility criteria. For answers to individual questions about the children’s allowance, a video consultation can also be arranged conveniently and easily from home.
